Akhmadaliev Obliterates Contreras in One

2016 Olympic bronze medalist and now super bantamweight prospect Murodjon Akhmadaliev blasts Ramon Contreras out in the first round to win a vacant inter-continental version of the WBA crown in only his fourth fight.  In what is seemingly becoming a trend in boxing nowadays, Akhmadaliev is yet another former blue chip amateur embarking on a fast-paced early rise towards title contention.  He took initiative from the opening bell, never allowing Contreras to get in rhythm by constantly changing range facilitated by his superior footwork.  A looping right hook to the head set up the finishing blow, as Contreras ducked under the shot which left his liver exposed to a perfectly placed Akhmadaliev left hand which crumpled Contreras like a lawn chair.  And for good measure, Akhmadaliev landed another debilitating left hand behind Contreras’ left ear while falling.

In his past few fights, Akhmadaliev had been experimenting with his style and winging his shots.  The level of opposition he has in the professional rankings and gap in talent have allowed him to get away with for the time being.  Against Contreras, he settled down and displayed every tool that helped him win an Olympic bronze medal in 2016 and a World Amateur silver medal in 2015. He has the talent and a promoter in Ryabinsky behind him to help him improve and move fast in the sport of professional boxing.  He also renowned trainer Joel Diaz, most famous for his work with former champion Timothy Bradley, who now has one of the deepest stables of upcoming talent that features the likes of the 2017 Asian Games champion Elnur Abduraimov, World Series of Boxing star Radzhab Butaev, Olympic silver medalist/World Amateur gold medalist Shakhram Giyasov and Olympians Batyr Akmedov and Bakhodir Jalolov.  Always fun to see the progression.
